Fertility Problems Surgery

Fertility problems are frequently treated medically without surgery but sometimes require surgery, both in the female and the male. The most common surgery performed for male infertility is removal of a varicocele (an enlarged vein going to the testicle); this is done by a urologist.

Common female fertility problems treated by surgery include:

  • endometriosis
  • scar tissue involving the tubes and ovaries
  •  fibroids and polyps
  • uterine anomalies (inside of uterus is heart-shaped rather than shaped like an upside down pear)

These procedures are usually done at laparoscopy or hysteroscopy.
